Grace
that ever present power
Whisks you away
to another place
Her protective womb
Growth from Her
Loving embrace
No thoughts or beliefs
Stillness and reflection
Alone but with
and without

A very special horse, Grace, has impacted my life in ways that are difficult to describe.
It’s difficult to let go…
Not long ago, my life began changing at an incredibly rapid rate. Among the changes was a realization that I no longer carried the desire, motivation, health or resources to continue building a house and homestead on 10 acres of land in the Arizona desert.
After spending half a decade, my entire life savings (and then some), and experiencing failure after failure, I felt like I had little or anything at all to show for it.
To say that I ran out of fuel is a gross understatement…
Grace came home to us with a different name. One night, while in a deep meditation with this horse by her side, Alyssa (my daughter) heard “Grace”. And so, it became this majestic mare’s new name.
From then on, Grace has illuminated the concept of her name in amazing ways.
Without Grace, we’re limited by our minds, our bodies, our emotions—all the things which keep us chastised to lives lacking the exuberance of life itself. With Grace, however, we step into a level of being and experience the impossible.
We might say, “by the Grace of God…” What I think we’re referring to with such comments is our willingness to move out of the way, or rather, through a window of opportunity which would otherwise be non-existent in that moment.
To me, the beauty of Grace is just that: the opportunity to simply be, experience and express, all without the typical confines of our human limitations.
In my life, a huge part of me has wanted to hang on to things which no longer orient me toward my highest good for myself and others. I painstakingly attempted to hold on to religion, professions, people, pets, houses, property…perhaps an endless list—all in the hollow pursuit of safety, comfort and joy.
Little did I know that this simple concept of Grace had been there, patiently waiting, all along.
It’s still a huge mystery to me as to how a horse can wield such otherworldly powers. It’s also a mystery as to how deeply connected the horse is with and about us. I’ve heard countless stories of peoples’ horses telling them it’s their time to go—whether crossing over or simply on to live with another human during this lifetime.
As I attempted to hang on to this particular horse despite all the changes erupting in my life, Grace ever so eloquently attracted and brought forward her new home…I could certainly say, “by the Grace of God”.
Grace will be relocating to join with Jordanna Anawalt’s CHOICE Tribe in Bend, Oregon. We are extremely excited for Grace and all she will be able to contribute to horse and human within her new herd.
If you feel led and would like to support Grace’s transportation costs, you may do so here. Thank you to those of you who’ve so graciously offered your support! We’ve raised $305 of the $3,850 transportation costs!
